Deputy Director - Water Distribution and Collections
($93,058.77 - $137,384.00 Annually)
A Deputy Director-Water Distribution and Collections is responsible for assisting the Water Resources Department Director with planning, organizing and directing day-to-day operational activities within the Water Resources Department.
Management and direction of the City of Mesa’s water distribution and supply, wastewater collection, and irrigation systems (water/wastewater utility system).
Customer service administration.
Water meter repair, calibration, and technology program; and response to customer emergencies.
Performs a variety of engineering related and administrative tasks, and supervises superintendents and supervisors, and oversees supervisors, technical workers, service workers, and other employees.
Responsible for directing departmental functions such as planning, performance, and accountability.
Overseeing the preparation of, and monitoring, budgets.
Preparing the annual capital projects budget and five-year capital improvement program.
Directing staff engaged in activities related to the construction, operation, repair, and maintenance of water and wastewater utility systems.
This class performs related duties and functions as delegated, assigned, or required.
Responsible for long-range and strategic planning; preparing requests for estimates, requests for bids/proposals, and other documentation for maintenance projects; and asset management.
In the absence of the Department Director, represents the Department in various capacities.
This class has been designated as a non-classified, non-merit system, at-will position and is FLSA exempt-executive.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Engineering, Business Administration, Organizational Management, or a closely related field.
Extensive (5+ years) experience in the administration, planning, operation, and maintenance of water and wastewater utility systems and customer service field operations.
Three years of supervisory experience.
Proficiency in Windows based software, including Word, Access, and Excel.
Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license by hire date.
Must be available on a 24-hour basis to cover emergency situations.
Grade IV Water Distribution Operator and/or Wastewater Collection Operator certifications from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), or equivalent from another state agency.
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related discipline.
