SUMMARY We are currently working with a distributor of safety related products to identify an Operations Manager. With over 20 years in business, this company offers a wide range of safety related products to multiple industries and currently has over 8K customers and 13 locations. They are currently 65 employees strong, have a low turnover rate, and a friendly down to earth atmosphere. This company is embarking on a strategic growth initiative and as a result, the incumbent of this position will be afforded the opportunity to be part of exciting projects and initiatives as future growth takes place.
In summary, the Operations Manager will report to the COO and be responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the business to maximize efficiency, including the purchasing, warehouse, customer service, customization, and field service departments. Direct reports include the five managers over each of those departments, all of which are very seasoned managers. Indirectly, this person will be working with a team of forty employees who report into those managers. The Operations Manager will have responsibility for implementing and reviewing all standard operations procedures that will be used to train employees, have complete management responsibility including hiring, evaluating, coaching, route determination, discipline and termination. He / She will be required to monitor key performance indicators and take action as needed to ensure customer and budget requirements are met, and will be required to develop an annual budget forecast to COO approval.
The ideal incumbent will be a self-starter who is able to operate under general direction and work independently, with the ability to be a strong leader who doesn’t micro manage, and uses data analytics to make and support their decisions. Additionally will be strong at process development, organizing themselves and keeping others organized and following key protocols, and thinking innovatively to help streamline processes that continue to drive value to the customers.
Core responsibilities will include: • Monitoring KPI’s and taking action on areas that require improvement. Some areas to be monitored include examples such as: customer order fulfillment, inventory turns and accuracy, labor costs, customer service order accuracy, and quality of customization work. • Develop staff to maximize their efficiency and performance. • Drive innovative processes that will bring increased levels of value to customers. • Oversee activities and ensure assets are being protected from abuse or neglect. • Work with the sales department to ensure that operations is providing necessary support to meet / exceed customer needs and expectations. • Perform annual performance evaluations on staff. • React to change productively and handle other essentials tasks as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s degree or higher. • Industrial Distribution industry experience required. • Minimum of 4 years of experience working in an operational management position in an industrial distribution environment. • Must have a minimum of 4 years of people management experience. A strong leader is required for this position. • Must have very strong warehouse management experience. Knowledge of import / export highly preferred. • Experience tracking and monitoring key performance indicators. • Experience developing and managing budgets. • Must have experience working with various technology including MRP / ERP systems, warehouse management systems and other warehouse technology such as handhelds, and a high level of Excel ability. Experience with Crystal Reports and SQL desirable. • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, drug screen, and credit check.
