The Tissue Processing and Distribution Technician is responsible for evaluating, processing and distributing human ocular tissue for transplantation and research. All responsibilities should be performed within the scope of GEB’s missions and values.
-Cornea tissue processing for endothelial keratoplasty -Evaluate tissue using slit lamp, specular microscope and OCT -Complete required forms and perform data entry -Clean, sterilize and maintain instruments/equipment -Keep lab/processing areas clean and organized -Coordinate with laboratory technicians with distribution of tissue -Offer/distribute transplantable human eye tissue to approved surgeons, researchers and eye banks -Coordinates with Donor Coordinators regarding recovery of tissue from donors in the Georgia Eye Bank service area, should the requirement exist. -Assist the Laboratory Services Supervisor in various assigned duties. -Assist Surgery Scheduling & Supply Coordinator with ordering of supplies and ensuring lab/tissue processing areas properly stocked -Gather and assist in the analysis of data -Adhere to GEB Standard Operating Procedures, EBAA Medical Standards and FDA regulations -QC donor records for completeness and accuracy -Assist QS staff with environmental monitoring, process validation and quality improvement initiatives -Position requires schedule flexibility (e.g. nights, early mornings, weekends, etc.) -In all activities, strive to support the mission of Georgia Eye Bank, Inc. -Performs other duties as assigned
-Bachelor's Degree (four year college or university); relevant work experience may be substituted for academic requirements. -Experience working at an eye/tissue bank in a processing role viewed favorably -Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team. -Ability to interface with peers and hospital personnel on assignments. -Knowledge of the principles of slit lamp, specular microscopy, and aseptic technique. -Knowledge of the principles of microbiology and sterile techniques as it relates to eye banking. -Excellent communication (written and oral) -Exceptional Customer Service -Detail-Oriented -Advanced Critical Thinking -Must have valid driver’s license and insured automobile.
Physical Requirements: -Ability to lift and manipulate 35 lbs. -Frequent bending, lifting and grasping -Exceptional hand-eye coordination (fine motor skills) -Ability to stand for long periods
