As General Manager, this individual has primary responsibility for developing and executing upon both the annual and strategy plans for business unit/segment and for making decisions on the day-to-day operations of business unit/segment. Accountable for the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) performance of the business unit including achievement of revenue growth, gross margin improvement and operating income growth. Drives the innovation process and business transformation toward strategic plan objectives. Builds for the future by developing the overall business team based upon manpower development, hiring, training and promoting the best people. Leads by example in teamwork and unselfish commitment to overall PolyOne growth and success.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities - In conjunction with the GM of Advanced Composites, develop and implement the AOP and Strategic Plans for the business unit. Ensure plans are aligned with the long and short term goals of the company.
- Strong commercial focus with current and prospective customers to drive growth of the pultrusion offerings within the segment. Focusing on new and emerging marketspaces where composite technology provides significant performance opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain long term customer relationships and proven track record of developing and growing significant revenue within new markets and customers.
- Evaluate operating performance results of business unit against plan goals (i.e. Operating Income, Working Capital as a % of Sales, Gross Margin, and Vitality Index etc.) and take appropriate action to improve performance. Make day-to-day operations decisions for the business unit as necessary to drive performance.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of the markets served, pricing, products/services and the competitive landscape of the business unit.
- Provide leadership for the business unit functions and coordinate with corporate functions (e.g., Marketing, Business Development, Key Account Management, Finance, Manufacturing etc.)
- Determine allocation of resources within business unit and allocation of resources across functions. Ensure appropriate resources are in place to deliver and meet customer needs and to execute tasks necessary to achieve plans.
- Drive the innovation process within the business unit and grow revenue and profits in identified markets with new products and services.
- Review and approve sales plans for the business unit and drive accountability and results into the organization.
- Understand customer needs by establishing and maintaining key customer relations.
- Responsible for the performance management and people development processes within the business unit.

Education and Experience - Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
- MBA preferred
- 8+ years in a related field
