Lions VisionGift (LVG) is a local eye bank that recovers, evaluates, and distributes eye tissue donated by caring individuals for use in cornea transplantation, research, and education. LVG is a non-profit organization accredited and certified by the Eye Bank Association of America, the FDA, the State of Oregon, and the State of Massachusetts. Lions VisionGift has an opening for a challenging and rewarding full-time Tissue Distribution Specialist (TDS) position. This position works under the direction of the Vice President of Surgical Services, and is responsible for ensuring timely evaluation and distribution of donor tissue for transplant, research, and education. The TDS evaluates transplant-potential corneas and determines surgical suitability. The TDS completes all paperwork and packaging associated with the importation and distribution of ocular tissue and is the primary contact during normal business hours for distribution-related phone calls. This position is also on-call for distribution-related issues. Schedule could potentially include occasional evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
• Evaluate transplant-potential tissue and determine surgical suitability. • Slit lamp microscope evaluation of corneal tissue as required. • Specular microscopy evaluation of corneal tissue. • Match transplant corneas with surgeons based on various surgical needs. • Process incoming tissue requests from a variety of sources. • Prepare transplant tissue for shipment and arrange shipments. • Tissue inventory tracking. • Update databases with current information as needed.
A successful candidate will have:
• A Bachelor's degree is recommended though not required. Commensurate experience may substitute for degree. • Superb attention to detail coupled with excellent customer service skills are a must. • Computer expertise, especially with communications equipment, Microsoft Office products, and database applications are highly desirable. • Background in healthcare, science, IT, or extensive administrative experience.
