The Role: The Relationship Manager (RM) will work with the Head of Client Relations & Development to coordinate the overall relationship management activities in the East and Midwest territory with our BNYM Investment Management boutiques on behalf of North American Institutional Distribution (NAID) Taft Hartley clients/prospects and Public Funds and Endowments & Foundation prospects. The Taft Hartley client territory size currently consists of an AUM of over $25.3 billion and estimated annualized revenue of over $32.5 million. In this role, the RM is expected to provide both internal and external relationship management support and is responsible for proactively identifying and addressing all client issues by working closely with the client, NAID Management, NAID Client Relations & Development and various internal departments to meet all client requirements. On the boutique level, the RM works with portfolio managers, client relationship managers, product specialists and/or sales staff to develop and implement policies and procedures for servicing existing institutional accounts. The RM will seek out the most effective means for promoting additional BNYM Investment Management investment strategies and coordinating with the Head of Client Relations & Development when an active or complex new business opportunity is discovered. The RM will set up client meetings to discuss investment strategy, performance and service related issues. In this position, the RM is dually responsible for client satisfaction and retention of investment management revenue, while providing support and backup to new sales opportunities. Responsibilities:
Retain and institutionalize current client relationships; establish and maintain account plans on key clients.
Assist sales team in uncovering sales opportunities and navigating internally and externally to ensure highest likelihood of success in winning business.
Proactive relationship building and theme/strategy selling to a select list of clients.
Build consultant relationships and provide resulting intelligence to NAID Management and sales to help further the overall team's sales efforts.
Maintain and build analytics around client base and develop and execute on a strategy to institutionalize relationships, reduce risks and capitalize on opportunities.
Proactively seek strategy/boutique intel to help facilitate and enhance retention and growth; including analyses and competitive positioning information.
Both an internal and external facing role with significant travel required
Qualifications Qualifications BS/BA required; MBA or CFA desired. Has 7-10 years of institutional asset management sales, marketing, client service or relationship management experience. Proven oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational and prioritization skills, attention to detail and ability to effectively follow up and resolve matters efficiently. Has a superior understanding of the investment business and the firm's products, services and regulations. Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and CRM databases.
